The Role of a Charity Trustee
Trustees are at the heart of The Municipal Charities of Plymouth, our work, and our duty to vulnerable, single ladies over 60. Our Trustees reflect on The Charity’s vision, strategies, and policies solely in its best interest. Additionally, Trustees deliver a high standard of governance while ensuring effectiveness of operation.
As a collective body, Trustees act harmoniously and unanimously in support of all adopted decisions. They provide leadership, guidance, direction, and support to our outstanding staff and volunteers. In all their actions, The Trustees maintain stewardship of the charity in its original spirit in order to deliver the highest standards of charitable work and hand it to the next generation in the best possible shape.
Information About Becoming a Trustee
No specific skills are required to become a Trustee of The Charity. We welcome people of all walks of life and all ages, so long as you can demonstrate a strong desire to become a meaningful member of a charity committed to relieving poverty in Plymouth since 1584. As such, you will be able to help us improve our city as a whole as well as the lives of those less fortunate across our communities.
The Board of Trustees meet six times a year every other month starting in January, as well as on an emergency, need-to basis. The meetings typically last around two hours. We expect our Trustees to make all reasonable efforts to attend meetings, read background notes, and visit as appropriate.
